I watched the Mel Robbins podcast with celebrity stylist Erin Walsh the other night.Mel advertises it as one of the most transformative conversations she has ever had on her podcast.
I found it enlightening and also a little bit familiar.....
Erin's approach is about honoring your body, and the life you're living. It is about giving yourself compassion and thinking intentionally. It is about using our clothing as a tool.
She recommends that we start each day with these 6 words:
"How do I want to feel?"
Her process of intentional dressing involves:
1.) Asking yourself how you are feeling when you step into your closet
2.) Extending yourself compassion for everything that you are doing and going through 3.) Deciding how you want to feel, and choosing your clothing based on your desired state of mind
(She also said "Pearls are divine jewelry" which I thought was lovely.)

I'd never really considered intentional dressing before. But, after doing it for a few days, I can attest that it really does make a BIG difference. (Check out the podcast and try it for yourself)
What was familiar to me was the intentional "thinking" and "self compassion" part.
Those are 2 things I have learned since my brain hemorrhage and together they have fundamentally changed my life.
"As a man thinks, so he is."
(Proverbs 23:7)
"The power of life and death is in the tongue."
(Proverbs 18:21)
Every morning, when I go to my journal, I ask myself how I am feeling and how I WANT to feel. And then I find scripture to show me how it's already true. God, who does not lie, promised. (Titus 1:2)
His words are true. It's already a done deal.
Our job is to believe it.
If I need courage or confidence - I'll write:
"I've picked, you, I haven't dropped you. Don't panic, I am with you. There's no need to fear, I am your God. I will give you strength. I'll help you. I will hole you steady and keep a firm grip on you."
(Isaiah 41:9 MSG)
"By your endurance you will gain your lives."
(Luke 21:19)
"Arise for it is your task and we are with you. Be strong and do it."
(Ezra 10:4)
"Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial."
(James 1:12)
"He will make you overflow with abundance in every good thing you do."
2 Corinthians 9:7-8
If I want to feel beautiful, I will write a verse from the Song of Songs like:
"You are altogether beautiful my darling; there is no flaw in you."
Song of Songs 4:7
If I want to feel loved, safe, protected, cherished, chosen, led, guided, forgiven, free, creative, strong, or energized....there are verses for all of them!!
"I have loved you with an everlasting love."
(Jeremiah 31:3)
Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you."
(Isaiah 43:4)
"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up on wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31
"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it, and is safe."
(Proverbs 18:10)
I could go on and on all day....
The point is: God is with us.
He is strong and He wants us strong.
Our lives are happening FOR US.
He is working everything out for our good.
He has given us His word (to use as a tool to reshape our thinking), and He has given us other people to help us learn! Thank you Mel Robbins and Erin Walsh.
